How to care for your custom dolls:

Handling the Dolls

Dolls should be handled gently. The sealant used to seal the dolls can be sensitive to be finger prints, so be gentle while touched repainted faces and body blushed dolls. Handle dolls with gloves if you are comfortable doing so. Clean with compressed air cans or by gently blowing air on the dolls. Soft, clean paint brushes or make-up brushes can be used to remove dirt and debris. Do not use a brush that has any amount of make-up, paint, or any other pigment remaining in its bristles!

Can your dolls be played with?

As a doll lover I hate saying this, but no these dolls aren't meant to be played with. Customized dolls, especially those that have had their skin tone changed with body blushing, or any other body modifications, are inherently meant to be art dolls for display. Even gentle play can cause damage immediately or over time.

Advice?

If you're an adult collector or child collector, and find it fun or therapeutic to play with your dolls/change their outfits/style their hair, etc., I recommend designating specific dolls that are just for play. In between projects, it's always refreshing for me to change up the outfits on my personal dolls! :)

Hair Care

All dolls with rerooted hair have either nylon or saran hair made by either Shimmer Locks or The Doll Planet. For best brushing, use a metal combs. Metal combs help reduce damage to the hair. Use eye brow brushes for finite brushing, like brushing your doll's bangs.

How can I boil wash my dolls hair without getting them wet?

If you would like to style your doll's hair, but need to relax the hair first, cover the doll in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Boil water, and pour over the doll while it's protected by the bag. The warm temperature and steam will help lower the hair.

Removing Accessories and Clothing

At the moment, all clothing on customized dolls is not removable unless specified otherwise. Removing the clothing will damage the garments, and possibly the doll. All accessories, such as jewelry, headwear, and crochet purses are removeable. Check your doll's care packet to see how to remove your doll's specific accessories.

I'm having trouble removing my doll's headwear.

Check to see if there are dress pins stuck in the doll's head. Pins will usually have a ball point head, or small silver head. Gently pull out the dress pins to remove accessories such as hats, bows, veils, flower crowns, etc.

How do I remove my doll's jewelry?

Unclasp the jump ring closure by twisting it open with needle nose pliers. I recommend not removing earrings, as I always use glue to keep them in place, and removing them can potentially damage repainted dolls. If you absolutely need/want to remove them, gently and slowly pull the earrings out from the ears. For "piercings" made with stuck on nail charms, such as facial piercings, belly button rings, or stud earrings, gently scrape off the nail charms and glue residue with a palette knife. For body-blushed dolls, this can potentially peel off small amounts of skin, but all other dolls will look good as new. Check your care packet to see if your doll was body blushed or not.
